“To be blessed in unusual ways, we must think and act in unusual ways

                                                                                        Rick Warren

Recently, I was given a powerful blessing from God, instead of instantly celebrating,  I realized how quickly the grip of fear and a sense of thanklessness can try to steal our joy.  I also found myself focusing entirely on the fact that this blessing didn’t immediately alter my day-to-day work life or fix my career frustrations in the exact way I had been hoping .

It was only when I deliberately stepped back, took my ego out of the situation, and chose to look at things objectively that I was able to see the blessing for what it truly was.

When we audit our lives with an objective eye, we realize that everything related to God’s favor is found within the beautiful confines of His grace . True power is born when we stop looking at what we lack, step out of our complacency, and start recognizing the true spiritual riches already surrounding us.

The Abundance of God’s Grace

We live in a culture that tells us we are entirely on our own, prompting us to try to control the universe with our thoughts or manifest our desires through sheer human will . But relying strictly on our own human logic is a fragile path that often leads to bad choices, anxiety, and a waste of our most valuable asset: time .

The liberating truth of the Gospel is that we don’t have to carry the weight of the universe. God is sovereign, and His grace is a protective bubble .

I am deeply reminded of a story shared by pastor Charles Stanley about a ninety-year-old missionary named Bertha Smith. “As we left an airport on our way to a conference, this elderly woman was walking so fast that I had to rush just to keep up. When I asked her how she maintained such boundless energy, her response was absolute: “I’m walking in the power of the Spirit.”

Bertha taught a profound lesson about grace: we cannot improve human flesh . True spiritual growth doesn’t come from exhausting yourself trying to modify your old nature . It comes when you surrender to the grace of the Holy Spirit living inside you, enabling you to go entirely beyond the natural limitations of man . Grace is the realization that God provides the spiritual food, the strength, and the power to finish His work—we simply have to walk in it.

Breaking the Grip of Fear and Complacency

Fear and complacency are two sides of the same coin, and both act as massive roadblocks to your true potential.

  • Fear is often wrapped in a comfortable blanket of security. It is the single biggest reason for unrealized dreams and living under the constant weight of regret.

Complacency convinces us to stay exactly where we are, doing the least we can do . This lifestyle of minimalism devalues our purpose and breeds mediocrity.

Without a foundation of grace and objective gratitude, it is completely impossible to break this cycle.

When we lack gratitude, our minds default to a dark spiral of disappointment, bitterness, and anger born from unmet expectations . We become blind to our blessings and paralyzed by fear.

Objective gratitude changes the entire equation. When you actively recognize the grace God has bestowed on you, fear loses its grip. Thankfulness roots your faith deeply, shaking you out of complacency because you realize your God-given purpose is far greater than your temporary comfort, fears, or circumstances.

Jettisoning the Fleshly Obstacles

To experience true spiritual vitality and step into the game, we must identify and throw overboard the toxic human mindsets that systematically stifle our joy and sap our energy.

Envy

Envy is a destructive act of the flesh that yields absolutely no satisfaction; it is the one deadly sin that is no fun at all. When we waste time comparing ourselves to the curated lifestyles of others, we implicitly insult God . We are essentially telling the Creator that He made a mistake with what He allocated to us. Envy gnaws on your soul and completely steals your joy.

Entitlement

Entitlement rests on the two most dangerous words in the human vocabulary: “I deserve .” The truth is that every talent, breath, and asset we possess is a temporary gift on loan from God. We don’t deserve anything. Entitlement breeds a hypercritical attitude and acts as an absolute chokehold on our spiritual growth.

Bitterness

Bitterness and anger act as massive, jagged weights sitting right in the middle of your life raft . They create immense spiritual drag, holding us back and exhausting us as we try to paddle toward our destination. Jettisoning bitterness over the side of the boat instantly lightens your load and frees up space for the unconditional love of Jesus to move you forward.

Breaking the grip of fear and shaking off complacency won’t happen by accident. It requires an intentional, daily choice to step out of survival mode, audit your inspiration, and align yourself with God’s grace. When you stop looking at what you lack and start walking in the spiritual power already given to you, the roadblocks crumble.

You have a unique, God-given purpose waiting on the other side of your comfort zone—it’s time to claim it.
